New Puppy? Health & Safety Tips for a Great Start

Bringing home a new puppy is an exciting and rewarding experience. But ensuring your pup’s safety and health is also a priority. Follow these helpful tips to prepare your home for your new pup and make sure they’re safe and happy.

  • First, create a safe space for your puppy. This can be a gated off area indoors or an outdoor kennel. It’s important to contain your puppy to one area when you’re not there to make sure they don’t get into any trouble. Puppy-proof the area by removing anything that’s sharp or small enough for them to swallow.
  • Second, create a designated puppy area in your house, such as a play pen. This area should be away from any hazardous electrical cords and any items that could potentially be dangerous. Ensure that this area is large enough for your pup to move freely, has a comfortable place to sleep, and plenty of toys.
  • Third, make sure to feed your puppy the correct diet. Speak to your veterinarian about which food is the best for your puppy’s health and well-being. Proper nutrition is key in keeping your puppy happy and healthy.
  • Fourth, provide regular exercise for your puppy. Take them for walks, let them play in the yard, and give them plenty of stimulation. Appropriate amounts of exercise are key for your pup’s well-being, both physically and mentally.
  • Fifth, keep your pup up to date on vaccinations and parasite treatment. Vaccinations help protect your pup from dangerous diseases, so make sure to speak to your vet about what vaccinations they need. Additionally, flea and tick treatments are essential to keep your pup healthy and free of parasites. Finally, spay or neuter your puppy. This will help reduce the risk of a number of medical conditions, such as infections and uterine cancer. Additionally, it can help reduce excessive barking, whining, and urinating.

These tips will help provide a happy and safe home environment for your new puppy. Contact your veterinarian if you have any questions or concerns about how to best care for your furry friend.
